Shearwater Guest House   Quality in Tourism 4 Star Accommodation
...a 250-year-old sea captain’s cottage built on the sandy isthmus separating the Garrison from the rest of St. Mary's at Hugh Town Isles of Scilly. It is a friendly, centrally heated family run Grade II listed guesthouse offering individuality and an informal atmosphere.  The Guesthouse has notable red trimmed facia and red wrought iron fence and red door, conveniently situated on the level overlooking the park, close to shops, beaches and the harbour from where boats run daily to the off islands.  There are facilities available on St. Mary's for deep-sea fishing, Sea Safaris to see dolphins, seals, puffins & basking sharks, sailing, diving, golf, riding and cycling also tennis, squash and windsurfing. There are also electric golf buggies for hire to see out of the way places. GUEST ROOMS

Our six bedrooms are prettily furnished all with newly refurbished bathrooms, all offering wash basins, shaver points, hair driers walk-in showers and facilities for making a selection of hot drinks. All have flat screen TV’s. Four rooms are double en-suites with walk-in showers, one is double/twin with en-suite walk-in shower and one bedroom has its own private walk-in shower. The bedroom with private shower is shown with the beams in the picture. This unit is our family room, located on the 2nd floor. It consists of a double-bedded room and a twin bedded room across the landing. A toilet and sink are situated on the landing between the two bedrooms. The private shower is ten-steps down on the first floor. It is for the use of the Family room only. Bathrobes are provided for the private shower bedrooms. The family room is perfect for 2-3 single people, or 2 couples or a family of up to four people. Children aged 12+ only. Beds are made with duvets. Bath sheet towels are included. There is also a sitting area in the double bedroom as shown.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

DINING ROOM

The dining room has separate dining tables.  We offer a varied breakfast menu with fresh fruit, cereals, yoghurt, full English or smoked haddock with poached eggs and vegetarian options all cooked to order. We offer a three course, romantic, candle-lit evening meal, with tea or coffee, served after in the lounge. Meals are prepared four nights a week Mon, Tues, Thurs & Fri nights during June & July & August. Three nights a week Mon, Wed & Fri during April, May & Sept.

Fresh locally grown produce is used in our menu whenever possible. Bob cooks fresh local fish such as sea bass, black sea bream, hake, cod and Cornish salmon. He serves Chicken, pork & vegetarian dishes and finish with a homemade sweet. We also offer a small selection of wines, which you can enjoy with your meal or on the guest patio.

Excursion Planning
Alex Hicks our local Scillonian boatman from St Mary’s Boatmen Association calls at Shearwater at breakfast time to inform you of available boat trips to the off islands. Each with its own unique secrets, castles, turquoise clear sea, sandy deserted beaches, cafes and pubs. There are hundreds of interesting and beautiful sights to photograph and enjoy, fantastic beaches, coastal walks plus historical places of interest that never fail to surprise the first-time visitor.  Ask us for more information or chat to any one of the Islanders who are only too willing to help.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

GUEST LOUNGE

Bosun’s Locker is a comfortable guest lounge it has a colour television/DVD player and a good selection of DVDs to borrow. Whether you are arriving early in the year to see the spring flowers, end of the season for varied species of birds visiting the islands, or coming to enjoy the natural beautify of all of the islands throughout the year. Many of our guests return year upon year and are encouraged to treat the house as their own. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Guests have access to their room at all times but we ask for rooms to be vacated by 10am on day of departure.  Please be advised that we are unable to accept credit/debit cards. Payment by BACS is accepted. We are a BT OPENZONE hot spot and we have WiFi throughout the house. Look for us on Face Book. Under Shearwater Guest House.

Unfortunately we do not cater for babies or children under the age of 12.
Shearwater is strictly a NON SMOKING accommodation

From April 23 to September 28 evening meals consist of a three-course meal with tea and coffee served afterwards.
